Light ShowSpring has finally sprung in Washington, DC! Despite February’s cold weather we had an amazing month at FAN of inspiration and celebration! Local rap artist Lightshow came by to offer some words of encouragement and inspiration to FAN program participants. A SE DC Native who has performed alongside fellow D.C. rappers Wale and Shy Glizzy, he has also been the opening act for prominent rap artists 2Chainz and Nipsey Hussle. We really appreciate that Lightshow came through!

StrawberriesValentineWe celebrated Valentine’s day with chocolate dipped strawberries and Valentine’s gift boxes donated by Blue Dream Cakes. We also hosted a movie afternoon for the entire Meadowbrook Run Community as part of our CPDC partnership.

We closed the month with a Black History Month Showcase where FAN participants selected a contemporary or historical BlackHistoryShowcaseAfrican-American figure that they find inspirational. Participants researched their selected figure, and at the showcase shared a bit about the figure and why they chose that person. Martin Luther King Jr., TI, Oprah Winfrey, Lightshow, Eddie Murphy, Little Richard, Michelle and Barack Obama all made appearances courtesy of FAN youth.

We look forward to more great things during the month of March!
